Kim Andersen & Wild Turkey ~ Fishing together

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Charter Report

We started the day with a 20-25kt sou easter chopping up the seas and making life very uncomfortable for our punters. We pressed on, trolling some bommies with rigged gar and bibbed minnows for spanish and scaly mackerel.
The first two gar were attacked in a double hook-up, with 2 Mack tuna coming to the boat. From 8am until lunch at 12, we accounted for 10 Spanish and scaly mackerel, and some medium sized GT's.

By this time the boys were all a bit green under the gills, so we steamed to Michelmas Cay to have lunch in the lee, protected from the wind. After about an hour, colour had returned to all of their faces, so we set off to Oyster reef, where we found some good spanish mackerel to 8kg that were biting their heads off.

We pulled stumps at 3.30pm knowing that we had a bumpy return home in store for us. For the day, we caught approximately, 15 spanish mackerel, 10 scaly mackerel and other assorted fish including GT's and Tuna.

Cheers

Fishing with Kim Andersen

We started off the day with some reef fishing for Large mouth and smallmouth nannygai. We secured our bag limit on nannygai in the first 2 hours of the charter, landing a few nice sized fish.

We pulled out the trolling gear and made our way over to the paddock, hoping for a billfish. Although there was plenty of bait, the billies didn't want to play so we switched over to bibbed minnows to have a go at some Spanish mackerel. We put 2 nice sized Spanish in the boat in the first ten minutes before they switched off as the tide turned.

The punters really wanted to catch some coral trout, so a drop off on the paddock was our next port of call. After putting some quality trout in the boat, we put out the trolling gear once again and trolled but to no avail.

Overall, weather was great (if you don't count rain!) and fish were biting well.

Cheers

Family Fishing Group ** Updated

Today Wild Turkey welcomes back Manfred and his 3 sons as they headed north from the southern states to thaw out a little.

You can never tell what is bound to happen on the water - Fishing in the same places, Pixie & the Wide Grounds, with Flat waters and over cast skies this lead to a very hard day of fishing. A little sunshine helps bring the fish out but today it was not shiining too brightly.

They were fortunate to come across a fine Mac Tuna. They also hooked up a 100 ish pound marlin but after seeing a few of the jumps it soon escaped to be caught on yet another day.

As our skipper Troy and crew Bruce have both informed me
This is why they call it Fishing and not Catching !

We are waiting to be updated from Manfred himself.

Otherwise check back soon as Wild Turkey is out tomorrow and Monday fishing with Kim Andersen so we will let you know the update.

Boys from the Bush

Seas 25 knots ~ ROUGH

An extremely brave group of men from Normanton headed out for a pre wedding celebration. This was the worst way that the country should ever meet with the seas. There was thoughts of the possibility of heading home early but time and keen anglers fighting the seas paid off.

The fishing today was a little slower than has been but the results were still there and the celebration of the catch soon began.

  • 6 x Mackeral
  • 2 x Tuna

We look forward to seeing the photos and your comments.

Reds Galour !

Seas 20 knots - rough Wide Grounds

It has been hard at the moment to get out with the winds blowing and rough seas - however a brave group ventured east to fish the wide grounds with great results.

  • 9 x Mackerals
  • 14 x Reds

This earned Wild Turkey a write up in the lastest Yorkeys Knob Boating Club Marina email by Club & Marina Manager Stuart Vella.
  • " Well finally we have had a few days of good weather. The mackeral are well and truly on the chew with Wild Turkey catching a good number up to 20lb+, not to mention some really nice red's."
